If you are serving, most teams ask you to arrive a little before the service — each one says how much below.

What each team does
Find your role and check what it involves. This is a reminder, not a rulebook — if something here does not match how your team actually runs, tell a leader and we will fix the card.
Ushers
Looking after the flow of the service, and everyone in the room.
Usher
Keeping the service moving, and being where you are needed before you are asked.
What matters most
- Know what is coming next in the service, so nothing waits on you.
- Be ready to pass the ministers anything they need, without being called for.
Through the service
- Hand out the offering baskets when the offering comes, and collect them.
- Hand out communion when it is served.
- Help people find seats and move through the room without disruption.
Keep an eye out for
- Anyone who looks lost, unwell, or like they need a hand.
- Anything the ministers are reaching for that has not made it to them.
Security
Making sure nothing out of the ordinary happens, working closely with the ushers.
This role is still taking shape — expect it to be described more fully soon.
What matters most
- Keep an eye on the room, and stay close to the ushers.
- Watch the children: a child wearing a tag should not leave the service on their own.
Through the service
- Stay aware of the doors and who is coming and going.
Keep an eye out for
- A child heading for an exit without a parent.
- Anything that feels off — you do not have to handle it alone, find a leader.
Kids church
Teaching and caring for the children while the service runs.
Teacher
You teach the lesson we give you.
What matters most
- Study the lesson beforehand. Know it well enough to teach it, not to read it cold.
- Deliver it clearly — the children should be able to follow you.
Through the service
- Teach the lesson while the helpers keep the room running.
Helper
You keep the room running so the teacher can teach.
What matters most
- Keep the classroom calm and clean.
- Make sure nothing derails the lesson.
Through the service
- Handle check-ins and checkouts.
- Walk children to the bathroom, or back to a parent, when they need it.
- Help the teacher with the technology.
Keep an eye out for
- A child who is upset, unwell, or drifting away from the group.
Media
Getting the service to the people who cannot be in the room.
This team is growing — more roles will open up as it does.
Main camera operator
The role we most need filled.
What matters most
- Keep the minister in frame as they preach and move.
- Keep the livestream going out cleanly.
Through the service
- Follow the minister, switching between the close shot and the wide one as the moment suits.
- Check the livestream health numbers on screen from time to time.
Keep an eye out for
- The stream numbers going wrong — catching it early is the whole job.
Photos and b-roll
Photographs and extra footage of church life.
Not running yet — this one is coming.
Greeters
The first face people see, and the last.
Greeter
Welcoming people in, and being there when they leave.
What matters most
- Make people feel genuinely welcome — talk to them, do not just hand them something.
- Notice who is new.
Through the service
- Before the service: say hello, ask how long they have been coming, and if you do not recognise someone, ask whether it is their first time.
- Help anyone who needs information or is not sure where to go.
- Get a connect card to first-time visitors so we can stay in touch.
- After the service: be there for whoever wants to talk — help them fill in a card, or get a Bible into their hands.
Keep an eye out for
- Someone standing alone, or heading for the door without speaking to anyone.
Hospitality
Coffee, snacks, and a room that feels cared for.

What matters most
- Have the coffee, and any food, ready for after the service.
Through the service
- Keep things clean and tidy where it is needed.
